PEISO Mourns the Passing of Dr. Gregory B. Irvine

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – February 17, 2024 – The PEI Symphony Orchestra mourns the passing of Dr. Gregory B. Irvine, an accomplished musician whose influence resonates far beyond the concert hall.

Greg joined the PEI Symphony Orchestra in 1993 as Principal Tubaist. Greg’s contributions to the PEISO spanned performance, mentorship, and governance. Most recently, Greg was a member of the committee involved with the current search for the next PEISO music director.

Greg’s dedication to his craft was paralleled by his commitment to education: At UPEI, he nurtured the next generation of musicians, sharing his expertise in brass techniques, instrumental conducting, and music history. His guidance established this island province as a beacon for aspiring brass students—many of whom now carry his teachings into their personal and professional lives, further testament to his enduring impact.

His presence was profound, his contributions frequent, and they will forever be cherished, living on through the many lives he touched and the music he shared. Thank you, Greg.
