Why A “Roots” Concert?
Every year the PEISO provides an opportunity for Island and Atlantic Canadian musicians, including roots and pop performers, to perform with a unique backup band: the Prince Edward Island Symphony Orchestra!
The Roots Concert allows our audience to hear some of their favourite performers in a new setting. And it also gives many people the opportunity to experience symphonic music for the first time. Often that experience leads to a new appreciation of classical music and a new audience member. More than one person has come, heard, and stuck around to hear more.
The PEISO often pays for the artist’s songs to be fully orchestrated and they are able to keep the orchestral “charts” and use them royalty-free in future concert performances with other orchestras. In this way the PEISO helps local and regional artists grow their audience, popularity and performance opportunities in other regions in Canada, the US and Europe.
We go back to the “Roots” of music making: musicians getting together and exchanging sounds, styles, and experiences.
