Ryan E. Drew is a percussionist, educator, and communications researcher from PEI (Epekwitk), Canada. He has performed with the PEI Symphony Orchestra for a decade, with the Charlottetown Festival (Anne of Green Gables—The Musical, Mamma Mia! and more), and with military ensembles across Canada. At UPEI he is Sessional Instructor of Applied Percussion and Acting Coordinator of Inquiry Studies, a founding member of the Curiosity & Inquiry Research Collaboration Lab (CIRCL), and the 2025 recipient of the Hessian Award for Excellence in Teaching. He curates Tuning in to Nature, the PEISO's annual musical trailwalk, and works extensively with Canada’s National Arts Centre (Ottawa) as Teaching Artist and Manager of Learning Resources. With the NAC he has introduced thousands of maritime students to cross-cultural drumming techniques, associate produced SPHERE: The NAC Orchestra’s Festival for Listening to the Earth and The Great Canadian Orchestra Field Trip, and has created educational materials now used nationwide. He also instructs with TakingItGlobal's Connected North in Northern Canada and maintains an ongoing affiliation with STEAM and entrepreneurship program Shad Canada. His creative work spans National Geographic–funded projects (www.terrainspira.ca), publications in inquiry-based music education, and installations and presentations in Atlantic Canada, Aruba, and the Faroe Islands. With a Bachelor of Music (UPEI) and a Master’s degree (URJC, Spain), he is completing doctoral research at the University of New Brunswick on how the infrastructural design of everyday materials shapes listening and creative practices. @ryanelliotdrew
