Born in Moncton, NB, Monique Girouard started her musical training on the recorder at the age of five with Neil Michaud and at ten years old, began violin lessons with Father Médard Daigle. She became a member of the NBYO two years later and chose to continue her violin studies with Rodney McLeod. Playing with the NBYO and the NSYO, as well as attending many music camps in NB, NS and Québec served to expand her musical abilities. In 1996, she was awarded a Certificate of Excellence by the Université de Moncton in recognition of her academic excellence and her contribution to promoting the arts. She has taught hundreds of students, coached violinists in the MYO and played violin professionally in the area for over thirty years, giving concerts throughout the province as a member of either a trio, quartet, chamber ensemble or orchestra. She has often accompanied local choirs, such as, the Neil-Michaud choir, Greater Moncton Chorale, Beauséjour Choir and Louisbourg Choir and has played in many opera productions presented by the “Atelier d’opéra” de l’Université de Moncton.
