The PEISO Welcomes Guest Conductor Dina Gilbert

The PEI Symphony Orchestra will be featuring the critically acclaimed Dina Gilbert as Guest Conductor for their first concert of 2019, on February 24th. Known for her energy, precision and versatility, Dina is passionate about expanding classical audiences and possesses an innate curiosity towards non-classical musical genres.

Dina has conducted the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and the Orchestre national de Lyon in several Hip-Hop Symphonic programmes, collaborating with renowned hip-hop artists. She also conducted the world premiere of the film The Red Violin, with orchestra and soloist Lara St. John at the Festival de Lanaudière, and in January 2019 will conduct the North American premiere of the film The Artist with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal.

Currently Music Director of the Kamloops Symphony (British Columbia) and the Orchestre symphonique de l’Estuaire (Québec), Dina is also the founder and Artistic Director of the Ensemble Arkea, a Montreal-based chamber orchestra focusing on contemporary music.

Dina is regularly invited by leading Canadian orchestras such as the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, the Orchestre métropolitain, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Regina Symphony Orchestra and the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra and has recently made debut performances in the United States with the Eugene Symphony and the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra as well as in Asia conducting a series of five concerts with the Sinfonia Varsovia in Niigata and Tokyo in April and May of 2017.

The concert takes place at Zion Presbyterian Church at 2:30pm on Sunday, February 24th and will also feature the winner of the annual Suzanne Brenton Award, violinist Judy Yun. Tickets are on sale now at the Confederation Centre’s Box Office and will also be available at the door before the show. Tickets for adults are $40 and only $15 for students/children. There will also be a free pre-concert talk at 1:30pm in Zion’s Youth Chapel, where Dina Gilbert will chat with the audience and provide some personal insights into the music to be performed.
