My work background is very comprehensive with a career spanning over 40 years. I have been working in Major Projects and Operations for over 30 of those years. This work has carried me across Canada, the NWT’s and the Yukon. As part of contract, project and construction management I worked in all the stages of project execution. Working for Esso Exxonmobil and Suncor Energy in Infrastructure developing budgets, construction and project work packages and work execution. Accountable for regulatory compliance and administering policies and programs that ensured the most economical and cost effective use of equipment, facilities and human resources. I also worked on the construction of the Confederation Bridge in the PEI Borden Fabrication Yard. I was on the team responsible for the bridge component delivery on land to the jetty for placement in the water. Working very closely with the Dutch engineering team responsible for the Huisman Sledges which moved the components through the staging facility delivering them to the Svanen for placement. Another Major Project on PEI in which I worked was the building and commissioning of AgraWest Foods LTD in Souris. A modern highly technical potato dehydration plant again with Dutch design. I stayed on after commissioning the plant and worked there for 10 years as Plant/Operations Manager. Responsible for operations and new product development.
I have been semi-retired for three years and have been keeping busy doing volunteer work as a member of Charlottetown Royalty Rotary in the school food program. I am President of the Haviland Club Ltd a Non For Profit Organization serving the communities of Charlottetown and PEI. It is the home for many community organizations that hold their meetings and functions there. Over 150 years old it is a beautiful heritage property on the Charlottetown waterfront. Our executive is working hard to preserve the building and its heritage through strategic planning to achieve sustainability. We secured funding through Provincial and Federal Programs to develop a Strategic Plan for the Haviland’s future sustainability and completed an Engineering and Architectural Assessment of the Building. We also were able to get two grants from the New Horizons Seniors Program for work done for senior accessibility and Engagement Programs. I will be completing my second 2 year term as president in November this year.
My hobbies include Biking on the beautiful Island trails and golfing. I am a true Islander, spending lots of summer time over the years either in the water or under the water. In my younger years I loved to ski and of course played lots of hockey but now just enjoy skating on the outdoor rinks. But still spend lots of time at the rinks watching our grandkids playing hockey. Also love all music, I got this passion from my parents who brought music into our lives everyday as we grew up. From calypso from my mom to classical from my dad and everything in between. Music brings joy into everyone’s life, it is universal across the globe. It is good for your soul.
