Announcing our 2022-23 Season Programming
EARLY-BIRD PRICING AVAILABLE NOW FOR OUR 2022-23 CONCERT SEASON!
Our 55th concert season has just been announced and it’s shaping up to be one of our biggest years yet! Join us at the Confederation Centre of the Arts as we present four stunning orchestral concerts, packed with cherished classics, daring new works, and world-class soloists!
October 16th: Redemption
We open with a performance of Brahms’s Symphony No. 1 in C Minor, and, after much anticipation, soloist Justin Amador will at last be featured in Franz Strauss’s Horn Concerto in C Minor. Additionally the orchestra will perform Hymn for Everyone by acclaimed NYC-based composer Jessie Montgomery, whose profoundly felt works have been described as “turbulent, wildly colorful and exploding with life."
January 22nd: Mahler's Musings
Gustav Mahler met his beloved wife Alma in 1901 while composing one of his best known works. We are delighted to present his Symphony No. 5 (reduction by Yoon Jae Lee), paired with the lighthearted and colourful Baby-Serenade for Orchestra op. 24 by Erich Wolfgang Korngold — one of the most important and influential composers in Hollywood history.
March 5th: Goodnight Moon
PEI’s Karem J. Simon takes up the baton as the Guest Conductor at the March 5th concert, leading the orchestra through works by Bizet, Beethoven, Champagne, and more. The concert will also feature vocalists Hannah O'Donnell and Jillian Clow performing a variety of classic operatic repertoire.
April 16th: Reflections
This year we are also celebrating Mark Shapiro’s tenth and final season as Music Director and Conductor of the PEI Symphony.
“Over the past decade, I’ve felt exceptionally blessed to experience the warm embrace of PEI. My partnership with the PEISO has been as magical as it was improbable. I’ll forever treasure the memories of our many excellent adventures, and hold in my heart the names of PEISO players and community members no longer with us. My lasting gratitude goes to PEISO’s dedicated, hardworking board and staff, present and past.
Since 2012, whenever I’ve boarded a plane that was the first leg of my trek to Charlottetown, I’ve felt my spirit open and release. Part of my heart will always be here, and I hope – I know – that, one way or another, my journey will carry me back here someday."
