Our 2021-22 Season Begins October 17th with REUNION!

Our comeback season opens with a reunion in more ways than one. The PEISO’s sumptuous strings reconvene for a bounty of vibrant sound including a neo-Baroque dance suite by Respighi, the elegant classicism of Mendelssohn, a sizzling Piazzolla tango in tribute to the composer’s 100th birthday, and a powerhouse rediscovery by black English composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. For this concert the orchestra reunites with former PEISO Music Director, Dr. Jamie Mark, who solos in the luminous Clarinet Concerto of Aaron Copland.
James Mark, conductor, clarinetist, saxophonist, arranger and educator, is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, the Hartt College of Music, and the University of Michigan where he earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree. He is an Associate of the Royal College of Music in London, England, winning the Arthur Somervell Prize for Winds, presented by the Queen Mother. He has been Principal Clarinetist with the Royal College of Music First Orchestra, the Berkshire Symphony (Massachusetts), Symphony New Brunswick, and the PEI Symphony, and Eb Clarinet with the U.S. Air Force Band, appearing as concerto soloist with all of these orchestras.
Under the direction of Maestro Mark Shapiro, this year marks the PEISO’s 54th season, chock-full of thrilling masterworks and world-class guest performers, taking place entirely at the Confederation Centre of the Arts Mainstage Theatre. Season Subscriptions gain concertgoers access to the lowest available pricing, invites and discounts to special events, and guaranteed seating should a show sell out.
Please note that all current PEI Chief Public Health Office directives will be followed.
