(English) Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 – Violet Archer’s Sinfonietta

Guest Conductor Dinuk Wijeratne Featured in March
We are now half-way through our momentus 50th anniversary season and the first
two concerts were every bit as special as we had hoped. The second half of the
season promises to be just as spectacular, beginning in March with the return of
guest conductor, Dinuk Wijeratne.
A Sri Lankan-born, Canada-based composer-performer, Dinuk has been described
by the Toronto Star as ‘an artist who reflects a positive vision of our cultural future’,
and by the New York Times as ‘exuberantly creative’. His boundary-crossing work
sees him equally at home in collaborations with symphony orchestras and string
quartets, tabla players and DJs, and takes him to international venues as poles apart
as the Berlin Philharmonie and the North Sea Jazz Festival. Find out more about
Dinuk on his website: www.dinukwijeratne.com
Dinuk was our guest conductor two seasons ago when we presented Beethoven &
Beyond in February 2016. He returns March 4, 2018 to lead the PEISO through
Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8, Violet Archer’s Sinfonietta , and Samuel Barber’s Violin
Concerto, which will feature this year’s Suzanne Brenton Award winner, Sannu Lawt
on violin.
This third concert of the season will take place at Zion Presbyterian Church at
2:30pm on March 4, and tickets are already on sale now at the Confederation
Centre’s box office. https://boxoffice.confederationcentre.com/Online/default.asp#
Be sure to catch Dinuk and Sannu at the Pre-Concert talk before the show!
