PEI Symphony Day – Join Us!

We’re celebrating our 50th birthday with an entire day of events across Charlottetown!

The PEISO performed their first concert in 1968 and continues to present four large concerts and several smaller chamber performances each year to thousands of loyal patrons across Prince Edward Island. In an effort to give back to those supporters, Saturday May 26th will feature several free musical performances throughout the city in the morning and afternoon, as well as a larger concert/reception at the PEI Brewing Company in the evening, on what the PEI legislative assembly will officially declare “PEI Symphony Day”!

The day’s celebrations will begin at the Charlottetown Farmers Market with a morning performance by the PEISO Brass Quintet. Then, in the early afternoon, violinists Michelle Baldwin and Judy Yun will perform at Receiver Brass Shop. Weather permitting, there may also be music on Victoria Row’s outdoor stage, with performers TBA.

The PEI Brewing Company main event will begin at 7:00pm, where the entertainment will continue with the Singing Strings Youth Orchestra, a jazz trio from Holland College’s SoPA program, and finally the evening’s headliner, soul/motown band Lady Soul will carry the event to its midnight conclusion. The party will be emceed by Four-Tellers Gary Evans and Alan Buchanan, and a display of slideshows, videos and photos will trace the PEISO’s 50 year history. Birthday cake will be served, and the Brewing Co’s regular food and drink menu will be available for purchase.

A select number of locally sourced auction items will also be available for bidding, both online and at the event. Online bidding will take place prior to the event and then close for continued bidding at the venue itself. Proceeds from the auction will be used to offset the cost of the day’s celebrations.

All of these events are free of charge (donations accepted), and are child-friendly until 10:00pm. We invite Islanders of all ages to enjoy this diverse celebration of music in Charlottetown.
